Mafraq is located in the north of Jordan and characterized by dry rangelands (Badia), intensive greenhouse agriculture - in some cases employing hydroponic systems - and irrigated orchards. The rapid decline in groundwater levels poses a significant threat to the Mafraqs productive capacity, threatening both the land productivity and the socio-economic development of local communities.

In Mafraq, 3R interventions were implemented at three different pilot sites:
